Prophets were inspired by God with messages for his people, and nazirites were set aside to divine service. Yet according to Amos prophets are ordered not to transmit their message, and Nazirites made to break their vows. Israel's fundamental problem is not breaking this or that command of Adonai, rather it is the obstinate refusal to hear his will.
