כרת krt "cut" in Amos only as hiphil with the sense "take away, cut off, destroy, kill" (Am 1:5, 8; 2:3). Since in Amos each case seems to refer to rulers, presumably "kill, or cause to die" is intended. "Cut off" is a common euphemism for God executing a death sentence. The same verb in the qal is used elsewhere for the action of making a covenant.
