שִׁדָּפוֹן shidaphon "wind-blight" on crops (for the sense of "blight" caused by wind see Wolff, 221). A rare word, found in lists of disasters: Dt 28:22; 1 Kgs 8:37; 2 Chron 6:28; Hag 2:17; and Amos 4:9. The text of the later two examples is simpler than the others and similar to each other. They may be related to lists of rewards and punishments attached to the covenant. In Am 4:9 (as in other places) shidaphon is linked with yeraqon "mildew" the similar sounds and meanings of the two words reinforcing their effect (cf. thohu vavohu in Gen 1:2).
