Ahab (reigned c.871–852BCE)

Son of Omri, one of Israel's strongest kings, Ahab was a powerful military ruler. He successfully defended Israel against Damascus and is the first Israelite to be mentioned in the Assyrian records, though their estimate of his strength as 2,000 chariots and 10,000 footsoldiers is probably exaggerated!

His wife, Jezebel, was daughter of the king of Tyre.
