Lament
A true "lament" is a song expressing sadness at a death. The "Song of the Bow, David's lament over Saul and Jonathan (2 Sam 1:17ff.) is the classic example. Typically such "laments" were in lines of unequal length giving a 3/2 rhythm. Many scholars have classified the psalms of complaint as laments, but following Gerstenberger the term seems better suited to their contents and apparent function.
