A well
written literary text requires careful interpretation or close reading as
the author will have built so much in to it. However, any text can
be over-read, or interpreted too far. Assessing how far is "too
far" is made more difficult as all texts say more (or less) than
their authors realised. (Just think of returning to something that you
wrote, after not reading it for a couple of years!)
