- Priestly strand (P)
- Among the strands that source critics commonly find in the Pentateuch one
seems to focus on the concerns and interests of the priests. It preserves
lists and genealogies, and detailed descriptions of the tabernacle equipment
and furnishings. It has a drier and less dramatic narrative style than the
"Yahwist", but seeks to respect God's majesty. Genesis chapters
1 and 5 are not untypical. Compare the genealogy in ch. 5 with that in ch.4
(which is a Yahwist rendering of similar material).
