- While in one sense simply "making out" the words of a text is
reading, in a wider sense the whole understanding one develops is
"reading" that text. For a story, one's "reading" in
this wider sense is the world one imagines as a result of hearing or reading
in the narrower sense. This includes our understanding of the people and
their motives.
